Children and Adult Music Theory Classes
Let us help you make music make sense!
Whether you sing in a choir, play an instrument, study GCSE music or are simply interested in music, it all makes a lot more sense if you have an understanding of the 'nuts and bolts'.
At Inclusive Music and Movement we work with adults, teenagers and children from the most basic stages of musical theory, through to more advanced levels, showing our students that music theory is interesting and even fun! It is important to us that students work at their own pace so that the foundations on which they are building are always strong.
We understand that life is crazy and so for those students that would like the input and clarification from a teacher, but are unable to commit weekly to a class, we offer a solution! Providing you are able to get your work to us, we will mark and comment, leaving explanatory notes, hints and tips, ready for your collection so that you are able to move on to the next stage.
The added benefit for having a good theoretical knowledge is that it can help with all other areas of your musicianship skills, help you to learn pieces more quickly and effectively and enable you to improve your sight-reading skills.
Classes are held during term time on Thursdays from 7-7.45pm in Bognor Regis. There are typically 12 classes per term at a cost of £48 per student.
Grade 5 Music Theory Exam Classes
When taking Associated Board (ABRSM) graded examinations, pupils have to achieve Grade 5 in a Music Theory exam before they are able to continue on to Grades 6, 7 and 8 on their chosen instrument. This can prove a hurdle for many people learning an instrument, however, it doesn't have to be this way.
Inclusive Music and Movement offer Grade 5 Music Theory classes which means that pupils can continue their regular instrument lesson, preparing for grades and performances, whilst, at the same time learning the syllabus required to take the written exam. This means that progress is not stilted and that achievement of the advanced grades, which gain UCAS points for University, is quicker.
Music Theory classes take place in Bognor Regis and Chichester and are £8 per pupil. Classes are term time and students are able to sign up to a term or two in order to receive tuition to help them pass the relevant theory grades.
GCSE Music Survival Classes
Whether you plan to take GCSE Music but are in two minds, or you are already part-way through the GCSE course, these classes could prove to be invaluable. Our GCSE survival classes give you the opportunity to gain additional confidence, knowledge and practise in all areas of the syllabus, but particularly those areas that are concerning you, or that you find challenging. Every student that comes to us has different strengths and our classes have been created to give you the confidence and tools you need to carry you forward as an individual. Areas of study are presented in a fun and practical way, allowing the subject to really 'come alive' and live not only in the classroom.

Plus anything else you feel you would like to cover again or in more detail!
Hear from one of our adult students...
"Who would have thought I would need or think of doing a music theory course? I love choir and I know that dots going up are high and going down low...what else is there?
Working full-time, children, etc.; always busy...do I need it? Would I look stupid...a fool? Am I too old?! My goodness, how wrong could I be? It's the best thing.
I went in as a blank page, knowing zero. Others in the group are at different levels and stages. Our teacher is patient. It's fun and we are able to have one-to-one during the session. No question is silly. It's a whole new world. I can pick up notes, timing, beats. Wow!
It's so great and who knows how far I can go! I guess that's up to me and I can't wait. I truly believe it will enrich anyone who loves music. Don't be worried. Jump in and you will find like me that a quaver doesn't always belong to Walkers!"
